Do you have favorite taquerias/restaurants?
I like Cha Cha Cha, not so much Ole Ole. Nuestra Cocina is pretty good (Division and 20-ish?), and I've heard positive things about Iron Horse on Milwaukie... this is crucial for any sort of well-balanced diet I might try to maintain; your input is *most* appreciated.
And while we're talking "south of the (U.S.) border", are there any notable Brazilian/Chilean/Guatemalan etc places around town?

Re: Favorite Mexican Food?
Sun, September 18, 2005 - 10:14 AMEsparza's on 28th and Ankeny st eastside. If you eat lamb try their lamb steak, everything on their menu is bomb!
Taquero Neuevo on 28th between burnside and Couch eastside
Pambiche on 28th and Glisan is Cuban and it's nice too.
La Carreta on Holgate and 99E is open till 2am and has meal deals, drink especials and freakin' cheesey nachitos!
that's all I can think of now...

Re: Favorite Mexican Food?
Sun, September 18, 2005 - 8:12 PMI like all of Bridget's choices :)
Also, Dona Maria's on Lombard and Greely, the taqueria Mexicana on 58th and Lombard, El Indio on 108th and Halsey for their chips and salsa and camarones diablo - eat in the bar, the restaurant sucks and they serve food until 2:30am. There's a hot deli in the back of a tienda on 162nd and Glisan that has kick ass food too, I just bought some there today. Unless you speak Spanish, you just have to point at what you want. It's a little spendy, but well worth it.
Andina, is OK, for trendy Peruvian.
El Salvador in Sellwood is good, for their plantains cooked in cream.
...and I guess that's all I can think of for now... -

Re: Favorite Mexican Food?
Sat, January 26, 2008 - 3:19 PMMy favourite is Rico Taco in Gresham on like 182nd and Burnside..when I worked at Marsee I asked all the Mexican folk what their fave was and they told me this place..it is truely killer cheapo Taqueria food ..with a really great fresh salsa bar..
I used to like Uruapan on 82nd and Reedway ..but that place is pinche chorreo now ..terrible ..plus they got rid of the dollar tacos ..
There a killer Lonchiera on 82nd ave near that place called Stuff and the Krispy Kreme called La Caterina ..that place is insanely good..they have a really good Torta Cubana that costs like 10 dollars but the thing is fucking huge..you can feed 3 people on it..they also do a smaller one..they have really good chorizo tacos too ..but the torta is where it is at.,,,
There is also a pretty good place on Sandy near like 120th that is a Mexican bakery ..they used to do a Cuban Torta that only cost 4 dollars ..it was insane: Ham , chicken, bacon, sausage, avocado, cheese and veggies all for 4 dollars..so good..I think that they may be doing something else now..
I havent been to too many high end gringo-fied places like Taqueria Nueve ..that sounds like a nice place but a long time ago I went to La Calaca Comelona and had their grub and was let down cos I could have had the same stuff at Don Pedros for half the price..
Oh by the way ..sorry for any horrible grammar mistakes... -

Re: Favorite Mexican Food?
Mon, January 28, 2008 - 4:33 AMoh man...i am really missing mexican food right now! i've been in india for one month and they just cannot recreate a mexican dish.
on the bright side, however, can you imagine an enchilada made in india? it is pretty delicious...but not authentic mexican at all...has a indian twist to the standard recipe.
believe me tho: as soon as i get back to portland i am going straight to la bonita

Of course I'm still searching for pupusa(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pupusa for the un-initiated) in PDX. -

Mon, February 11, 2008 - 7:33 AMAwesome. To this point I've had to make them and no matter how good my wife says they are, I know the difference.
But I'm a master of salsa fresca, so it balances out.

Re: Favorite Mexican Food?
Sat, February 16, 2008 - 2:29 PMI just noticed the bottom of the post about any other Latin food in town..like I said on Foster there is Ma Tonas that has Salvadorian food..and there is a Salvadorian restaurant in Sellwood ..I cannot recall the name ..there is also a couple Peruvian places in town..one is in the Pearl so it is really high priced ..the other is downtown near 3rd and Alder I think..it is mexican with Peruvian food..it is pretty gross though..there was a Brazillian place way out on like 120th ..um..there was a Cuban place on 82nd..and also that place on 28th ..I cant recall the name of it ..really good but expensive desserts ..
